Questions surrounding the silence of Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi on the floor of the National Assembly have finally been addressed, shedding light on his role behind the scenes.
For years, Sudi has rarely contributed to debates in Parliament, a contrast to his outspoken presence at political rallies where he strongly defends President William Ruto and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA). His silence in the House has often sparked speculation among Kenyans.
However, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has now clarified the matter. Speaking recently, Ichung’wah explained that Sudi, alongside Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, plays a significant role in parliamentary committees rather than plenary debates.

According to Ichung’wah, much of Parliament’s critical work happens at the committee level, where policies and legislative proposals are thoroughly scrutinized before being presented in the House.
He emphasized that Sudi is actively involved in these committees, contributing meaningfully to discussions and decision-making processes.
The revelation highlights the often overlooked importance of committee work in Kenya’s legislative system.
While plenary sessions are more visible to the public, committees remain the engine of Parliament, where detailed deliberations shape the country’s laws and policies.
This explanation may now reshape public perception of Sudi’s effectiveness as a legislator.
