UNITED OPPOSITION SEALS UNITY PLEDGE AT WINDSOR RETREAT AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS
KIAMBU, KENYA — Principals of the newly forged United Alternative Government of Kenya have officially signed a historic pact aimed at mounting a formidable joint challenge against President William Ruto in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
Meeting on August 24, 2026, at the Windsor Hotel in Kiambu County, opposition stalwarts—including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Fred Matiang’i, and Democratic Party’s Justin Muturi—agreed on a consensus strategy to pick their coalition flag bearer. Notably absent from the high-stakes signing was Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua.
According to an official press statement released after the meeting, titled “Country Above Self: United Alternative Government Principals Seal a Covenant of Unity,” the participating leaders executed both a Personal Unity Pledge and a Coalition Unity Agreement.

The key resolutions agreed upon during the summit include:
- Pledge of Individual and Collective Unity: Each principal committed to standing together and ensuring the alliance presents a singular, credible alternative government to the Kenyan electorate.
- Selection Process & Endorsement: The coalition established a consensus-building formula to select its presidential candidate. All participating leaders bound themselves to fully support and campaign for whoever is chosen to bear the 2027 ticket.
- Prioritizing National Interest: The alliance called on members to rise above individual ambitions, historical political differences, and partisan agendas to prioritize national unity.
“We recognise that millions of Kenyans are looking beyond individual leaders and political parties,” the collective resolution stated.
“They are asking whether those seeking to provide alternative leadership have the courage to put aside personal ambitions in defence of the greater national interest. Our answer today is unequivocal: Kenya comes first.”
The press release was issued under the umbrella of constituent political parties including Wiper Patriotic Front, People’s Liberation Party (PLP), Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), Azimio la Umoja, Jubilee Party, Democratic Party (DP), and PNU.
