A fresh political storm is brewing after Kimani Ichung’wah revealed details of an alleged attempt by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to seek intervention following his impeachment.
Speaking during an interview on the popular Obinna Live show, Ichung’wah claimed that shortly after his removal from office, Gachagua reached out to him with a request to help facilitate talks with President William Ruto.
According to the National Assembly Majority Leader, Gachagua hoped the President could step in and help resolve the impeachment case that ultimately led to his downfall.

Ichung’wah, however, stated that he declined the request without hesitation, maintaining that it would have been inappropriate for the Head of State to interfere in a constitutional process.
He emphasized that impeachment is a legal and parliamentary matter that must follow due process, free from external influence.
“It was not something the President should be dragged into,” Ichung’wah said, adding that respecting institutional independence is critical for the country’s democracy.
The revelations have sparked widespread reactions across the political landscape, with analysts interpreting the claims as a sign of the deep divisions that emerged within the ruling coalition following Gachagua’s ouster.
Gachagua was impeached over a year ago in a dramatic political showdown, paving the way for Kithure Kindiki to assume the Deputy President position.
Since then, Kindiki has been working to consolidate support in the Mount Kenya region, a key voting bloc ahead of the 2027 General Election.
While Gachagua has remained vocal in his criticism of former allies, Ichung’wah’s latest remarks add a new dimension to the unfolding political narrative, raising questions about behind-the-scenes efforts that followed the historic impeachment.
