The Kiharu MP and People’s Party of Kenya leader said the investment should not be presented as an achievement belonging solely to the current administration. Speaking at the PPK headquarters on September 28, Nyoro argued that previous governments laid important infrastructure foundations that have helped make Kenya attractive to major investors.
Nyoro specifically pointed to infrastructure in Lamu, saying the current administration inherited facilities developed under previous governments. His remarks effectively opened another front in the increasingly heated political debate ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He nevertheless welcomed Aliko Dangote’s investment, noting that major industrial projects can contribute to job creation and economic development. His argument was that Kenyans should recognise the contribution of successive administrations rather than allowing one government to claim the entire achievement.
The remarks come just days after Nyoro also demanded greater transparency over the ownership structure of the proposed refinery. He has called for the shareholders behind the project to be disclosed, arguing that Kenyans deserve clarity over such a major investment.
With the proposed refinery groundbreaking scheduled for September 30, Nyoro’s intervention adds a fresh political dimension to an investment the government has presented as a major economic milestone. As 2027 approaches, the question of who deserves credit for Kenya’s development projects could become an increasingly powerful political battleground.
