What began as a routine political address in Luanda, Vihiga County quickly turned into a charged moment after ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna delivered a dramatic rebuttal to claims made by party leader Oburu Odinga about his relationship with the late Raila Odinga.
Addressing supporters during the Linda Mwananchi initiative rally, Sifuna rejected assertions that Raila had grown tired of him prior to his death.
Oburu had earlier alleged in an interview that Sifuna was given multiple opportunities by Raila but allegedly misused them by taking positions that contradicted the veteran leader.
In a bold move that captured the attention of the crowd, Sifuna played an audio clip he said was from Raila himself. In the recording, the late ODM leader is heard questioning claims that the party would not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna used the clip to argue that Raila remained confident in his leadership and commitment to the party’s future.
The Nairobi Senator went further to defend his loyalty, pointing to the role he played following Raila’s passing. According to Sifuna, he was among those entrusted with the responsibility of traveling to India to facilitate the return of Raila’s body—an assignment he described as a clear sign of trust.
He dismissed Oburu’s remarks as misleading and urged ODM supporters to demand proof before accepting such claims. Sifuna emphasized that protecting Raila’s legacy should not be reduced to political narratives that divide the party.
His response now adds a new layer to ongoing internal debates within ODM, as leaders navigate differing interpretations of Raila’s legacy while positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
