Video: Sifuna Received Like a King in Meru, Days After He Was Attacked in Homa Bay
MERU, Kenya — Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was accorded a triumphant, king-like reception in Meru County on Sunday, just days after his political entourage faced violent disruptions during a tour in Homa Bay.
According to video footage shared online, a massive motorcade of local leaders and cheering supporters joined the former Secretary-General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as he made a grand entrance toward the Meru County headquarters.
The visiting delegation was formally received by former Meru County Governor Her Excellency Kawira Mwangaza, alongside a host of regional grassroots mobilizers.
Mwangaza, who had earlier called on the National Police Service to guarantee security ahead of the tour, warmly welcomed the political caravan as it kicked off series of engagements across Mount Kenya East.

The rapturous welcome stands in sharp contrast to the chaotic scenes witnessed during Sifuna’s recent Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay. During that event, hostile goons ambushed the convoy at the Asumbi junction, resulting in several vehicles being damaged and burnt amid rising political temperatures.
Refusing to be deterred by the previous violence, Sifuna’s Meru entry turned into a massive show of strength. Excitement filled the air as business ground to a brief halt along the main transport corridors, with crowds of residents lining the streets to chant slogans and catch a glimpse of the entourage.
Addressing supporters from atop his vehicle alongside Mwangaza, Sifuna praised the residents of Meru for their peaceable spirit and warm hospitality, emphasizing that political leaders must be granted the freedom to engage Kenyans in every corner of the country without fear of intimidation.
