Nairobi Women Representative, Esther Passaris has given a candid account of how supporters of the Orange Democratic Movement managed to attend the party’s high-profile rally in Kitengela on Sunday, February 16, 2026.

The rally was hosted by Orange Democratic Movement Secretary General Edwin Sifuna. He also also accompanied by Member of Parliament Embakasi East Honorable Babu Owino.

While she did not provide exact numbers, the arrangement allowed hundreds of residents from Nairobi’s informal settlements to join the event, demonstrating the party’s reach and grassroots mobilization efforts.

Passaris emphasized that the transportation support was organized to ensure that party members and supporters could safely and efficiently make it to Kitengela, a town in Kajiado County, for the rally led by the embattled ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna.

“We know there were logistical challenges, but it was important for people to show solidarity,” she said, highlighting the dedication of ordinary supporters.

The rally, which drew thousands, became a focal point for the party amid growing political tensions.

It also comes after widespread criticism of political gatherings and security interventions in recent months, with several opposition rallies facing police scrutiny.

Passaris noted that the safe transport of supporters underscored the party’s commitment to enabling citizen participation, even under challenging circumstances.

Political analysts say that mobilizing supporters from Nairobi’s densely populated areas such as Kawangware and Lucky Summer is a strategic move by ODM, aimed at consolidating support ahead of upcoming national campaigns.

“This is about visibility and ensuring that the party’s voice is heard across counties, not just in Nairobi,” one analyst observed.
Despite the successful turnout, the rally was not without controversy.

Opponents have raised concerns about the coordination of large crowds amid ongoing public safety regulations, arguing that political mobilization must be balanced with law enforcement directives.

Passaris, however, remains confident that the logistical efforts reflect the party’s ability to connect with its base. “Our supporters are passionate, and we will continue to ensure they have the means to participate in shaping Kenya’s political future,” she added.

The Kitengela rally, facilitated by buses and matatus from Nairobi’s informal settlements, demonstrates the continued resilience and organizational capacity of ODM as it prepares for critical political contests.
