Former Orange Democratic Movement Party Secretary General Senator Edwin Sifuna is no doubt the politician of the moment.
He is expected to launch his political outfit as he prepares himself to face off with incumbent President Dr William Samoei Arap Ruto in the forthcoming general elections to be held in August next year.
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary-General Hassan Omar has publicly extended an invitation to Nairobi Senator and former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, urging him to join the broad-based government structure as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a political engagement, the ruling party official called on Sifuna to abandon his resolute opposition stance and align with the cooperative administration framework established between President William Ruto and key opposition allies.
Omar argued that the broad-based government represents the most viable vehicle for national stability, inclusive governance, and sustained development.
Addressing the sharp political differences that have characterized the current landscape, the UDA executive expressed confidence that working inside the administration framework offers a more constructive platform for delivering results to the electorate rather than relying on opposition rhetoric.
He encouraged the vocal Nairobi Senator to recognize the shifting political realities and unite with the ruling coalition to build a broad political consensus before the next polls.
The outreach comes amid notable resistance from Sifuna, who has repeatedly rejected proposals to fold his political movement into the ruling administration’s structure.
The Senator has consistently maintained an independent trajectory, criticizing the co-option of opposition figures into the executive branch and insisting that maintaining a vibrant, critical opposition remains vital for protecting democratic oversight and offering voters a distinct alternative in 2027.
Omar’s public overtures reflect the ruling coalition’s broader strategy to consolidate support, neutralize vocal critics, and construct an expansive electoral alliance.
However, Sifuna’s firm refusal underscores the ongoing ideological split within the political class over whether cooperation or robust opposition serves as the best strategy leading into the upcoming campaign season.
