The United Opposition is optimistic that it will defeat incumbent President Dr William Samoei Arap Ruto in the forthcoming general elections to be held in August next year.
But Wiper Patriotic Front Movement Party leader Hon Kalonzo Musyoka has left Kenyans murmuring after he revealed what will happen if president Ruto defeats them.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has signaled a potential political shift regarding the 2027 General Election, hinting that the opposition could consider a post-election truce or power-sharing agreement with President William Ruto if the incumbent secures a fair victory.
Speaking during a church service in Siaya County, the former Vice President indicated that political reality might force a national reconciliation effort if the opposition faces defeat, provided the democratic process remains free and transparent.
The statement represents a noticeable contrast from his previous rigid stance, where he consistently dismissed any possibility of a handshake or coalition government prior to the ballot.
While addressing congregants alongside other political figures, Musyoka emphasized the importance of democratic maturity, stating that both the ruling coalition and the opposition must be prepared to accept the outcome of the high-stakes 2027 presidential contest.
He noted that maintaining stability and preserving national cohesion could require leaders to re-evaluate their positions after the electoral results are finalized.
During his address, the veteran politician also urged President Ruto to cease public attacks against retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Musyoka dismissed allegations that Kenyatta was secretly funding opposition activities, explaining that presidential campaigns rely on broad networks of friends and allies rather than individual backing.
He called on the administration to engage opposition leaders directly in the political arena rather than targeting the former head of state.
Warning that Kenya remains politically fragile, Musyoka stressed that political figures must prioritize national unity over perpetual rivalry.
His observations come as opposition factions continue discussions to field a united front against the Kenya Kwanza administration, highlighting that the ultimate goal remains delivering a democratic outcome that reflects the will of the voters.
