President William Ruto on Friday launched into a fresh political offensive as he began a high profile development tour of Murang’a County, using the platform to rally support for his administration while unveiling a series of government-backed projects.
Addressing residents and local leaders during the opening leg of the tour, the Head of State struck a combative tone, defending his government’s record and urging Kenyans to reject divisive politics.
He said his administration remained focused on delivering tangible development despite what he termed as constant political distractions.
The President’s visit to Murang’a comes amid heightened political temperatures in the country, with the opposition ramping up criticism over the rising cost of living, taxation policies, and what they describe as unmet campaign promises.
During his speech, Ruto accused opposition leaders of prioritising personal attacks and political theatrics instead of offering solutions to the challenges facing ordinary Kenyans.
He claimed some of his critics had made it a habit to insult government officials and undermine development efforts.
Without naming specific individuals at first, the President warned that his administration would not be distracted by empty noise and political insults, insisting that the government’s development agenda was on course.
As the crowd cheered, Ruto turned his fire directly on opposition figures, accusing them of lacking a clear plan for the country and relying on public rallies to spread misinformation.

He challenged them to present alternative policies rather than engage in what he called endless complaints.
The President also used the occasion to highlight key projects expected to benefit Murang’a residents, including road upgrades, affordable housing programmes, water projects and support for coffee and dairy farmers.
He urged local leaders to unite behind his administration’s economic transformation agenda, saying the region stood to gain more through collaboration with the national government.
Murang’a County is seen as politically strategic in the Mt Kenya region, an area that has recently shown signs of political realignment amid growing tensions between Ruto and some former allies.
The development tour is expected to continue across several constituencies in the county, with the President keen on consolidating support and countering opposition influence ahead of future political contests.
