Video: Gachagua Finally Reveals Why He Failed To Visit Raila’s Grave Site
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally broken his silence on why his highly anticipated pilgrimage to pay homage at the grave of the late ODM leader, Honorable Raila Odinga, failed to materialize.
Gachagua had faced intense public scrutiny and criticism online after he skipped both the main funeral services held in Karen and the final burial ceremony at Raila’s ancestral home in Bondo.
In response to the backlash, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader had initially arranged to organize a massive delegation of elders, clergy, and political figures from the Mount Kenya region to journey to Siaya County to offer condolences directly to the family.
However, the planned visit to Bondo hit an unexpected snag.

Addressing a gathering of youth leaders at the DCP party headquarters, Gachagua revealed that all logistical and administrative preparations for the visit were complete before sudden national and international diplomatic developments altered the schedule.
According to the former Deputy President, the primary reason for the cancellation was the appointment of Mama Ida Odinga, the widow of the late opposition titan, to a prestigious United Nations diplomatic role.
Gachagua explained that Mama Ida’s elevated duties and busy schedule following her UN appointment disrupted the timeline, rendering it impossible to proceed with the delegation’s itinerary as originally planned.
“We had completed every arrangement to visit Bondo and pay our final respects at the grave site,” Gachagua stated while addressing the youth. “However, after Mama Ida Odinga was appointed to her UN office, the whole plan collapsed because the timing could no longer align with her official engagements.”
Gachagua maintained that his intent to honor the legacy of the veteran leader was genuine, dismissing claims that the move was political posturing, and reassured his supporters that his commitment to national unity remains intact.
