Kenyans have been left in shock following the suspension of Hussein Rashid Mohammed as President of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), pending investigations into alleged misconduct and financial impropriety.
According to official resolutions dated April 24, 2026, and signed by members of the FKF National Executive Committee (NEC), the decision was reached after serious concerns emerged regarding the management of the federation. The committee cited the urgent need to restore public confidence in FKF and to allow for independent investigations without interference.
The letter outlines several key allegations against the suspended president. Among them is financial impropriety, including claims of misappropriation of public funds. Notably, the document references an alleged loss of approximately Ksh 42 million from CHAN-related bank accounts.

The NEC also pointed to violations of the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act of 2015, accusing the leadership of engaging in non-competitive procurement processes for goods and services.
Further concerns raised include conflict of interest and broader breaches of both the FKF Constitution and the laws of Kenya. The committee claimed that a majority of its members had been systematically excluded from executing their roles, contrary to constitutional provisions governing the federation.
As part of the resolution, Hussein Mohammed, alongside other top officials including a nominated NEC member and the acting General Secretary, was asked to step aside immediately to pave the way for investigations by relevant local and international bodies.
In the interim, FKF Deputy President Macdonald Mariga Wanyama has been appointed to act as president. Additionally, all FKF bank accounts linked to the suspended officials have been frozen, and an independent forensic audit has been recommended.
The unfolding developments have sparked widespread debate, with many now awaiting the outcome of the investigations that could shape the future of football governance in Kenya.
