‘They Wanted To Kill Me’: Gachagua Drops Explosive Security Allegations

NYERI, Kenya — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sparked intense national debate after a video surfaced online showing him making explosive claims regarding alleged hit squads within the National Police Service.

Speaking from his residence in Wamunyoro, Nyeri County, during a strategic meeting with visiting political delegations, the former second-in-command asserted that his life remains in imminent danger.

Addressing allies and local leaders gathered for political realignment discussions, Gachagua directly linked two rogue police officers stationed at the Kikuyu Police Station to high-profile assassinations and political hit jobs.

According to Gachagua, the two unnamed officers were responsible for the recent fatal shooting of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu in Nairobi.

He further accused the duo of involvement in the subsequent killing of a medical doctor, Dr. Victoria Mutiso, who was shot dead near Kenyatta National Hospital, alleging the murder stemmed from an ongoing land dispute.

The most chilling revelation, however, concerned an alleged state-sponsored elimination plot.

Gachagua claimed that the same two Kikuyu Police Station officers were specifically tasked with executing a hit targeting him, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka during a political engagement a few months ago.

“They were paid to kill me, Matiang’i, and Kalonzo,” Gachagua alleged, accusing senior security command of protecting the officers despite complaints.

The viral video has sent shockwaves across Kenya’s political landscape, triggering urgent calls from civil society groups and legal bodies for the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the grave claims. Neither the National Police Service nor government spokespersons have formally responded to the allegations.
