“I Will Not Allow That”: Gachagua Fires Back at Munya and Muturi Over Opposition Party Rows
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has firmly pushed back against criticisms from political leaders Peter Munya and Justin Muturi, maintaining that he will make no compromises as he solidifies support for his party, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), in Mount Kenya ahead of the 2027 general election.
The back-and-forth follows accusations leveled by Party of National Unity (PNU) leader Peter Munya and Democratic Party (DP) leader Justin Muturi, who accused the DCP of bullying smaller political outfits within the united opposition and attempting to force them into folding.
Speaking from his home in Wamunyoro, Nyeri County, a visibly determined Gachagua dismissed the complaints, urging rival leaders to match his work ethic on the ground rather than expecting political concessions without effort.

He emphasized that he travels across the country continuously, holding multiple weekly engagements to sell his agenda and grow the DCP footprint.
“I will not allow people who are not pushing their parties hard during campaign periods to come and demand more,” Gachagua stated, defending his aggressive grassroots mobilization.
Gachagua clarified that while he remains fully committed to supporting whichever candidate is ultimately selected to represent the united opposition for the presidency in 2027, the DCP will yield no other elective seats. He maintained that except for the top job, the party intends to field candidates for all other elective positions across the region and beyond.
As political realignments intensify in the Mount Kenya region, Gachagua’s uncompromising stance signals a fierce struggle for political dominance within the opposition camp, setting the stage for competitive primaries and ballot battles in 2027.
