Edwin Sifuna has finally broken his silence on the future of the Linda Mwanainchi initiative, offering the clearest indication yet of its end game after months of sustained pressure and tough questioning from critics.
Speaking in Shamakhokho, Vihiga County, the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) addressed growing calls from a section of leaders who have been urging him to quit the party and form his own political outfit.
The critics have argued that Sifuna cannot continue engaging in internal party battles while at the same time positioning himself as a key national figure.
In his response, Sifuna struck a defiant tone, making it clear that his strategy goes beyond party politics. He revealed that the Linda Mwanainchi movement is part of a wider plan aimed at mobilizing and uniting the Luhya community into a formidable political force ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to Sifuna, unity within the region will be critical in ensuring that the community secures a strong bargaining position in national politics, including the possibility of clinching the top seat.
His remarks were seen as a major shift, signaling that the initiative is not merely about opposing the government but about building long-term political influence.
However, his declaration has triggered widespread speculation. Some Kenyans now believe he could be laying the groundwork for a presidential bid, while others interpret his message as a sign that he may eventually rally behind a consensus candidate outside the current broad-based government.
Notably, Sifuna stopped short of declaring his personal ambitions, choosing instead to emphasize collective progress over individual interests.
Even so, his latest remarks have intensified political conversations, with observers keenly watching whether his unity call will translate into a tangible political movement as the 2027 contest draws closer.
