President William Ruto has hit back at his former deputy Rigathi Gachagua in a fiery address that signals deepening political tensions in the Mt Kenya region.
Speaking in Kandara Constituency, the visibly agitated Head of State dismissed claims that he needs to seek political goodwill from his former ally, declaring firmly, “Siwezi pigia mtu magoti” (I cannot kneel before anyone).
The remarks come amid heightened political activity in Murang’a County, where Ruto and his allies have intensified tours aimed at consolidating support.
The President, who was accompanied by several regional leaders, emphasized that his focus remains on delivering development rather than engaging in political confrontations.

He insisted that he would directly engage wananchi to earn their trust ahead of the 2027 General Election, rather than relying on intermediaries or political gatekeepers.
“I will go to the people myself and present my record. It is the citizens who will decide whether to give me another term,” Ruto stated, in what appeared to be a direct rebuttal to Gachagua’s growing influence and criticism within the region.
The Mt Kenya political landscape has remained volatile following Gachagua’s impeachment, an event that disrupted long-standing alliances and triggered a scramble for regional dominance.
Ruto’s latest remarks suggest a shift toward a more direct, grassroots approach as he seeks to reclaim and stabilize his support base.
Political analysts view the exchange as a clear indication of an escalating rivalry that could shape the dynamics of the 2027 race. As both leaders continue to rally support, the region is expected to remain a key battleground in the country’s evolving political scene.
