National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has sparked widespread debate after revealing that he declined two powerful positions offered to him by President William Ruto following the 2024 Cabinet dissolution.
Speaking during an interview with journalists, Ichung’wah disclosed that in the aftermath of the youth-led protests that prompted a major government shake-up, President Ruto personally reached out to him with significant offers.
According to the Majority Leader, he was given the option to head key ministries, including the National Treasury or the Ministry of Trade, among other cabinet roles.
However, Ichung’wah said he turned down the offers, citing personal and political commitments in his Kikuyu Constituency.

He explained that at the time, he had ongoing development plans and felt it was not the right moment to leave his constituents for an executive role.
“I had already set things in motion back home, and I believed my focus was needed there,” he said.
Instead, Ichung’wah chose to remain in Parliament and continue serving as Majority Leader, a role he described as critical in advancing the government’s legislative agenda.
His remarks have drawn mixed reactions, with some Kenyans praising his loyalty to constituents, while others question the decision to reject such influential positions.
