Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again stirred political debate after revealing what Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki allegedly communicated to him privately following their escalating public clashes in the Mount Kenya region.
Speaking during a public address in Maragua, Murang’a County, Gachagua claimed that Kindiki had discreetly sent emissaries to him in a bid to ease tensions after a sustained war of words between the two leaders.
According to Gachagua, the message delivered was conciliatory in nature, with Kindiki reportedly seeking forgiveness over the rising political hostility in the region.
The former Deputy President, however, maintained a firm stance, stating that while he had forgiven Kindiki on several political disagreements, there remained a critical issue he could not overlook.
Gachagua pointed to the deaths of young people during the period when Kindiki served as Interior Cabinet Secretary, insisting that accountability must be taken.

“I have forgiven him on many issues, but not on the loss of innocent lives. He was in charge of that docket and must take responsibility,” Gachagua told the crowd, drawing mixed reactions from supporters.
Since his dramatic impeachment, Gachagua has been openly critical of President William Ruto and his administration, accusing them of betrayal and marginalization of the Mount Kenya region.
He has also dismissed Kindiki’s attempts to consolidate political support in the region, arguing that leadership cannot be imposed through state machinery.
The revelations are likely to intensify political realignments in Mount Kenya, a region considered crucial in Kenya’s electoral landscape.
Analysts suggest that the growing rift between Gachagua and key government figures could reshape alliances ahead of the 2027 general election.
Neither Kindiki nor his office had issued an immediate response to the claims by the time of publication.
