Drama as Security Subdues Agitated Youth Targeting Kilifi Governor
WAJIR, KENYA — As the nation gathered to celebrate a historic Madaraka Day, security details were forced into swift action following a dramatic security breach targeting Kilifi County Governor, Gideon Mung’aro.
While the national focal point centered on Wajir County—the first time the republic’s self-governance celebrations have been hosted in the North Eastern region—local events elsewhere took a tense turn.
Attendees in Wajir widely praised President William Ruto for fulfilling his pledge to decentralize national celebrations, hailing the move as a vision for a more unified country.
However, miles away from the main celebrations, chaotic scenes unfolded on the ground.

According to a widely circulated video capturing the incident, an unidentified young man breached the security perimeter and charged aggressively toward Governor Mung’aro while he was at the public address area.
The visual footage captures a moment of high tension as the youth appeared highly determined to physically assault the county chief. Sensing the immediate danger, Governor Mung’aro was forced to quickly shift to the opposite side of the podium to evade the oncoming attacker.
The security response was instantaneous. The governor’s bodyguards moved with immense speed to neutralize the threat, subduing the charging suspect before he could reach the county boss.
The agitated youth was arrested on the spot by security personnel and whisked away for interrogation.
“The quick thinking of the security team prevented what could have been a tragic escalation during a national day of unity.”
Local authorities have opened an investigation into the security lapse and the motive behind the sudden confrontation. Despite the brief scare, Governor Mung’aro was unharmed, and order was restored to the venue.
