Bolt Rubbishes “Fake News” of Kenya Shutdown, Confirms Operations Continue
NAIROBI, Kenya, June 1, 2026 – Ride-hailing giant Bolt has strongly denied viral rumors that it is shutting down its operations in Kenya.
The company issued a statement on Monday dismissing a letter, which has been widely shared on social media, claiming that Bolt would cease Kenyan operations effective June 8, 2026.
The fraudulent document, referenced as 1001627244.jpg, was labeled a “Public Notice to all Drivers and Customers” and purported to be signed by an “Arthur Gacharia,” identified as a Senior Operations Manager for Bolt Kenya.
The fabricated letter claimed that following “extensive consultations,” Bolt had been “unable to satisfactorily address the concerns and demands raised by our driver-partners while maintaining a sustainable business model.” It further instructed all users to “make the necessary arrangements before the effective closure date.”
However, Dimmy Kanyankole, Bolt’s Senior General Manager for East Africa, categorized the entire document as “FAKE.” In a statement, Kanyankole asserted, “We wish to categorically state that this document did not originate from Bolt Kenya or any of its authorised representatives.”

Bolt has reassured its driver-partners and customers that it remains “fully operational and committed to serving” the country. “We remains focused on delivering safe, reliable, and innovative services while creating economic opportunities across the country,” the company stated.
Far from slowing down, Bolt has affirmed its continued investment in Kenya. The company highlighted its ongoing expansion, including the recent enrollment of over 1,700 electric motorcycles into its two-wheeler and boda boda services.
Bolt is now investigating the source of the “fabricated document” and warns it will take action against those creating and sharing misleading information. Stakeholders have been urged to disregard the fake notice and only trust information from Bolt’s verified channels.
