NAIROBI, Kenya — A video capturing a lighthearted yet frantic moment between Cabinet Secretaries Aden Duale and Kithure Kindiki has gone viral, sparking widespread amusement and debate across Kenyan social media platforms.
The dramatic scene unfolded during President William Ruto’s official tour of the North Eastern region. In the footage, President Ruto is seen walking along a security barricade, warmly greeting a dense crowd of local residents who turned out for the event.
Flanking the Head of State were senior government officials, including Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Defense CS Aden Duale.
As the hot North Eastern sun beat down on the delegation, onlookers noticed Interior CS Kithure Kindiki visibly struggling with the intense heat, lacking any headwear.
While President Ruto remained shielded by a wide-brimmed hat, Kindiki was left exposed to the scorching afternoon rays.

Seeing his colleague’s discomfort, Duale took matters into his own hands with military-like precision. In a swift, unexpected move caught clearly on camera, Duale reached out, snatched a traditional hat right from the hands of an attendee in the front row, and immediately handed it over to Kindiki.
Kindiki quickly placed it on his head, bringing instant relief and a smile to his face, all while the procession kept moving.
The “hat-snatching” incident has triggered mixed reactions from Kenyans online. While some netizens criticized the abrupt manner in which the hat was taken from the citizen, the vast majority viewed the moment with humor, praising Duale’s quick thinking and camaraderie.
“Duale saw an emergency and acted immediately
. That is true brotherhood in the cabinet,” one user commented on X (formerly Twitter). The video continues to trend as Kenyans relish the rare, unscripted glimpse into the dynamics of senior state officials on the ground.
