A fresh political storm is brewing within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna launched another stinging attack on party figure Oburu Odinga during a radio interview.
Speaking on Spice FM, Sifuna did not hold back, delivering what many observers have termed as a “below-the-belt” remark aimed at Oburu’s leadership credentials.
In a striking analogy, the ODM Secretary General compared Oburu to “a power bank,” while likening the late party leader Raila Odinga to “a transformer,” suggesting a vast difference in influence and political capacity.
According to Sifuna, the comparison underscores why he finds it difficult to align himself with Oburu’s leadership direction within the party.
“You cannot expect the same output from a power bank and a transformer,” he stated, implying that Oburu lacks the political weight and vision that Raila commanded.

The remarks come just weeks after Sifuna had referred to Oburu as a “mediocre leader,” comments that already stirred tension within ODM ranks.
His latest statements are likely to deepen divisions at a time when the party is still grappling with internal reorganization following Raila’s passing.
Political analysts warn that such public criticism from a senior party official could signal deeper cracks within ODM, potentially affecting its unity ahead of future political contests.
Supporters of Oburu have since criticized Sifuna, accusing him of disrespect and undermining party cohesion.
However, Sifuna appears unshaken, maintaining his stance that leadership within ODM must reflect strength, vision, and the ability to command national influence.
As the fallout continues, all eyes remain on ODM’s next move and whether the party can contain the growing rift among its top leadership.
