Tensions are rising within the government after Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka launched a scathing attack on Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over recent deadly clashes reported in parts of Eastern and North Eastern Kenya.
Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, Kalonzo accused Duale of fueling ethnic tensions between Kamba communities and Somali herders, linking the violence to remarks allegedly made by the Cabinet Secretary during a recent visit to Mandera County in the presence of President William Ruto.
Kalonzo claimed to possess video evidence showing Duale making what he termed as “inflammatory and inciteful statements” in Somali dialect, remarks he believes triggered retaliatory attacks across several regions.
The clashes have reportedly led to the deaths of at least three people, destruction of businesses in Mwingi and Nguni, and the displacement of Somali camel herders from parts of Meru and Ukambani.

“These are reckless utterances from a senior government official that have now cost innocent Kenyans their lives and livelihoods,” Kalonzo stated. He further criticized Duale for what he described as indifference, alleging that the CS has remained “comfortable and unbothered” despite the escalating crisis.
The Wiper leader condemned the violence and called for immediate restoration of peace in the affected regions. He also urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to summon Duale and investigate the alleged remarks, insisting that those responsible for incitement must be held accountable.
“I condemn the clashes, I call for peace, but I also demand that Mr Duale and all actual perpetrators be arrested and prosecuted,” Kalonzo concluded.
Efforts to obtain a response from Duale were unsuccessful by the time of publication. Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified patrols in the affected areas as leaders continue to appeal for calm amid fears of further escalation.
