Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has challenged Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to provide evidence supporting claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is funding the Linda Mwananchi political movement.
Speaking during an interview on Spice FM on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Sifuna dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically driven. He questioned why the government has failed to present proof if indeed such financial links exist.
“You heard Murkomen saying that we as politicians are under 24 hours’ surveillance… So he surely must see me receiving money from Uhuru. Why can’t he show the country Uhuru Kenyatta and Edwin Sifuna exchanging money?” Sifuna posed.
The remarks come amid rising political tensions surrounding the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has attracted criticism from leaders allied to the government. Some have accused the camp of being backed by powerful political figures, claims Sifuna strongly refuted.

Beyond the funding allegations, Sifuna also opened up about internal dynamics within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He drew comparisons between longtime party leader Raila Odinga and current leadership under Oburu Oginga, noting a shift in leadership style.
“Raila Odinga was something else; we didn’t expect that Oburu would be like Raila Odinga,” Sifuna said, adding that many party members had grown accustomed to Odinga’s consultative approach.
He, however, expressed respect for Oburu, acknowledging that different leaders bring different styles.
Sifuna emphasized that his priority remains the strength and future of ODM rather than personal political ambitions. He described the party as one of Odinga’s lasting legacies, rooted in the fight for multiparty democracy in Kenya.
“The biggest interest is not for Sifuna to be SG, but for the party to progress,” he stated.
His remarks are expected to intensify political debate while piling pressure on Murkomen to substantiate the claims.
