A public address by Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome in Kiharu ended abruptly after a hostile crowd reaction, in an incident that unfolded in the presence of President William Ruto.
The dramatic moment, captured in a widely circulated video, occurred during the President’s development tour of Kiharu constituency. Notably absent from the event was the area Member of Parliament, Ndindi Nyoro, whose name quickly became the focal point of Wahome’s remarks.
While addressing residents, Wahome urged Nyoro to “return to the government side” and contribute constructively to national development. She criticized what she described as external attacks on the administration, arguing that meaningful economic reforms could only be achieved from within government structures.

However, her comments did not sit well with sections of the crowd. Residents began heckling loudly, chanting and interrupting her speech, signaling clear disapproval of her stance. The situation escalated quickly, making it difficult for the Cabinet Secretary to proceed.
Amid the growing unrest, Wahome was forced to cut short her speech, an unusual and tense moment witnessed by the Head of State and other leaders present.
The President did not immediately address the incident, but the disruption highlighted underlying political divisions within the region.
The absence of Nyoro, a key political figure in Kiharu, has fueled speculation about his relationship with the current administration. His recent political positioning has drawn mixed reactions, both from leaders and constituents.
The incident underscores the increasingly charged political atmosphere in parts of the country, where leaders face heightened scrutiny from the public.
As the video continues to circulate online, it has sparked widespread debate about loyalty, governance, and the role of elected leaders in addressing citizens’ concerns.
