President William Ruto has unveiled an ambitious vision to overhaul the capital city, promising sweeping infrastructure upgrades and a renewed push to restore order, cleanliness, and pride in Kenya’s economic hub.

Speaking during a public address in Nairobi, the Head of State declared that his administration is fully committed to transforming the city into a modern, efficient, and globally competitive metropolis.

He said the national government would work closely with the Nairobi County administration to implement wide-ranging reforms aimed at improving roads, sanitation, and urban planning.

Ruto emphasized that Nairobi must reflect the aspirations of the nation, describing it as the true face of the Republic of Kenya.

He noted that as the capital city and a key diplomatic and financial centre in the region, Nairobi carries immense symbolic and economic importance. According to the President, upgrading its infrastructure is not just a local priority but a national imperative.

Among the key areas of focus is the construction and rehabilitation of roads to ease traffic congestion, which has long plagued commuters.

Ruto said new road networks would be developed in underserved areas while existing roads would undergo expansion and repair.

He added that the government is exploring integrated transport solutions to make movement within the city more efficient and affordable.

On sanitation, the President vowed to restore cleanliness in the city centre and residential estates.

He pointed to the need for better waste management systems, enforcement of environmental regulations, and coordinated efforts between national and county authorities.

Ruto said a clean Nairobi would attract more investors, tourists, and international events, boosting the local economy.
The President also hinted at broader urban renewal projects, including the regeneration of informal settlements and improvement of public spaces.

He stressed that development must be inclusive, ensuring that all residents regardless of their socio-economic background benefit from the planned transformation.

Ruto’s remarks come amid growing public concern over infrastructure decay, traffic gridlock, and waste management challenges in the capital.

The city has faced mounting pressure due to rapid population growth and urban expansion, stretching available resources and services.

Political leaders allied to the government welcomed the announcement, describing it as long overdue. However, some critics cautioned that similar promises have been made in the past, urging the administration to prioritize transparency and timely implementation.

The President assured Nairobi residents that visible changes would begin to take shape soon. He called on citizens to support the initiative by maintaining cleanliness and cooperating with authorities during infrastructure works.

With the bold pledge, Ruto has set the stage for what could become one of the most significant urban transformation drives in Kenya’s history.

Whether the plan delivers lasting change will depend on funding, coordination, and sustained political will but for now, the promise of a renewed Nairobi has captured national attention.
