DRAMA IN NAROK: Gladys Wanga’s Chopper Aborts Landing After Energetic Youth Crowd Grounds Helipad
NAROK, KENYA — A political rally in Narok County took an unexpected turn today after a helicopter carrying Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson, Her Excellency Gladys Wanga, was forced to abruptly abort its landing following safety concerns on the ground.
Video footage rapidly circulating across social media captures the tense moment the pilot attempted to descend at the designated landing zone. However, hundreds of excited Maa community youth, enthusiastically waving their traditional wooden walking sticks (rungu) in celebration, surged into the landing field.
The powerful downwash of the helicopter’s rotor blades, combined with the energetic crowd raising their sticks directly beneath the aircraft, presented a severe aviation hazard. Fearing potential collision risks or foreign object debris hitting the rotors, the pilot aborted the initial touchdown, hovering briefly before maneuvering the chopper to land safely at an alternative, secured location nearby.

Despite the brief landing scare, Governor Wanga disembarked safely to a resounding welcome from the local residents. Addressing the packed delegation, she rallied the Maa community to remain steadfast within the ODM party fold. Wanga urged the community to honor and uphold the enduring political vision and national ideologies championed by the late ODM party leader, Honorable Raila Odinga.
“The Maa community has always been a vital cornerstone of our party’s vision for an inclusive and prosperous Kenya,” Wanga told the cheering crowd, reassuring supporters of the party’s continued commitment to their developmental priorities.
The incident has sparked widespread online conversation regarding aviation safety protocols at high-profile political events, with many praising the pilot’s swift judgment in preventing a potential disaster while highlighting the passionate reception of the Narok youth.
