Political commentator and media personality Tony Gachoka has raised alarms over an escalating behind-the-scenes rift between former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachoka described the tension as a silent war currently brewing out of the public eye, warning that it will soon spill into the open as competing interests collide ahead of the next general election.
According to Gachoka, the fundamental driver of this emerging conflict stems from divergent strategic choices for the opposition coalition’s presidential candidate.
Former President Kenyatta is reportedly leaning toward Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka to lead the opposition ticket.
In contrast, Gachagua is actively backing Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, positioning him as a strong presidential contender capable of consolidating anti-government sentiment.
Gachoka noted that this ideological and tactical split reflects broader power struggles over control and influence within Mount Kenya’s political leadership and the national opposition front.
While Kenyatta favours a more seasoned political veteran in Musyoka, Gachagua’s calculated alignment with Sifuna represents a strategic move to leverage youthful appeal and redefine opposition dynamics.
The political commentator suggested that as the presidential race draws closer, the unspoken friction between the two prominent leaders from the Central region will inevitably come to a head.
