A newly released presidential preference survey by Mizani Africa has sparked intense debate within Kenya’s political political arena.
The poll places Wiper Patriotic Front Movement Party leader Hon Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of rival opposition figures as the most preferred opposition presidential candidate, a outcome that has drawn sharp skepticism from various political commentators.
Political analyst Kiigen K. Koech strongly rejected the poll results, claiming the data was manipulated to misrepresent current voter sentiment.
Koech insisted that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna commands greater popularity than Kalonzo Musyoka, arguing that the political dynamics will shift drastically once Sifuna officially launches his new political party.
He further dismissed the current findings, asserting that no definitive alternative or flagbearer position has been established within the opposition camp.
The Mizani Africa survey indicates Kalonzo Musyoka leading the preference rankings at 27.5 percent, followed by Edwin Sifuna at 13.2 percent.
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i recorded 7.7 percent support, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua garnered 4.4 percent.
Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro polled at 3.1 percent, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua received 0.3 percent, and former Chief Justice David Maraga managed 0.1 percent.
Meanwhile, a substantial proportion of respondents—ranging between 5.0 and 15.4 percent—remained undecided on their preferred presidential contender.
The sharp pushback against the findings highlights the escalating rivalry and strategic jockeying among opposition leaders vying for supremacy.
As various political factions prepare for the upcoming general election, disputes over opinion polling reflect the fierce struggle to claim the mantle of main challenger to the ruling coalition.
