Beryl Odinga’s Life.
Beryl was a trailblazer in public service, famously becoming the first black Town Clerk of Mutare, Zimbabwe’s third-largest city, where she played a critical role in the city’s post-independence administration.
She also served as Company Secretary at the Housing Corporation of Zimbabwe before returning to Kenya, where she chaired the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company, contributing significantly to public institutions.
Despite her low public profile compared to her famous family, Beryl was revered for her resilience, dedication, and pioneering spirit breaking racial barriers in Zimbabwe.
She was married to the late Edgar Tekere, a prominent Zimbabwean politician and liberation war hero.
