The Odinga family has once again been thrown into deep mourning following the death of Beryl Achieng Odinga, sister to the late ODM Party leader, Rt. Hon Raila Odinga.

In a heartfelt statement, former Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga confirmed the news, describing Beryl’s sudden demise as a devastating blow but one the family receives with humility and faith. “It is with a heavy heart, but accepting the will of God, that we announce the sudden passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga,” she said.
Beryl was a daughter of Kenya’s first Vice President, the late Hon. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga. She leaves behind her children Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taurai, who relatives say were the center of her life and her greatest joy.
She was a beloved sister to Senator Oburu Oginga, the late Rt. Hon Raila Odinga, Akinyi Wenwa, and several others in the close-knit Odinga family. She was also a sister-in-law to Dr. Anne Oburu, Dr. Canon Ida Odinga, Hon. Tabu Osewe, and Judy Oburu.
In the statement, the family emphasized the profound sense of loss they are experiencing, noting that Beryl’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering strength were felt by all who knew her.
“While we are deeply saddened by her demise and the immense void left in our lives, we take solace in the belief that she is safe in the Lord’s arms,” the family said. “We are thankful for the invaluable gift of the time we were privileged to share with her and for the profound impact she had on all who knew her.”
Beryl’s death marks yet another painful chapter in a year that has tested the resilience of the Odinga family. As condolences continue to pour in from leaders and citizens across the country, the family has asked for privacy as they prepare burial arrangements.
