Questions have continued to trail the prolonged absence of former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General and current Democratic Change Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader, Honorable Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah, from key party meetings chaired by DCP leader Honorable Rigathi Gachagua.
Malalah’s conspicuous silence and absence from recent high-profile gatherings have fueled speculation among political observers and Kenyans at large about his standing within the party.
For weeks, Malalah has not been seen alongside Gachagua during major DCP engagements, triggering rumors that he could be reconsidering his political future or even plotting a return to the ruling UDA party.
The speculation intensified on social media, with some critics questioning whether cracks were emerging within the young political outfit.
However, Gachagua has now broken his silence to address the matter. Speaking to members of the public, the DCP party leader clarified that Malalah’s absence was purely due to health reasons and not political disagreements.

According to Gachagua, Malalah developed a severe cold after prolonged exposure to cold weather during the recently concluded Cleo Malalah Super Cup, a popular grassroots sports tournament associated with the youthful politician.
Gachagua explained that doctors advised Malalah to take time off from intense political activities to allow him to recover fully.
He was quick to dismiss claims that Malalah was becoming inactive or drifting away from the party, describing him as a disciplined and principled leader who remains firmly committed to the DCP’s vision and leadership.
“Malalah is in DCP to stay,” Gachagua stated, firmly rejecting narratives suggesting that the former Kakamega senator could be engineering a political comeback to UDA.
Despite the clarification, Malalah himself is yet to issue an official statement to address the concerns or confirm the details surrounding his absence. As Kenyans await his response, political analysts note that his next public appearance could play a key role in silencing speculation and reaffirming unity within the DCP ranks.
