Businessman and philanthropist Oketch Sella has sparked a heated political debate after a controversial online post expressing his support for President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sella, who has long been associated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and was widely regarded as an adopted political son of veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, appears to have shifted his political allegiance.

In his latest social media post, he announced plans to launch a movement aimed at backing President Ruto’s bid for a second term.

“We shall soon be launching a strong and focused movement to support President William Ruto in securing a second term,” Sella stated. He added that the initiative would focus on “continuity, progress, and building on the foundation already laid for the people of Kenya.”

The statement has triggered backlash from a section of Kenyans, particularly ODM supporters, who accuse Sella of abandoning the party he once publicly championed.
