Tensions rose in Narok after former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i delivered a pointed message to Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, turning a public gathering into a moment of sharp political exchange.
Matiang’i challenged Ole Ntutu during the engagement with residents, questioning what he portrayed as attempts to control or dominate political space in the county. Read Full Article Here
His remarks quickly drew attention because of the governor’s close association with President William Ruto’s administration.
At the centre of Matiang’i’s message was his insistence that Kenya belongs to everyone and that no leader should act as though political or public space is reserved for particular individuals or groups.
The former Cabinet secretary also took aim at Ole Ntutu’s academic credentials, referring sarcastically to what he called the governor’s “forest certificate” while questioning who the governor intended to target with his actions.
The exchange added a dramatic moment to Matiang’i’s visit to Narok, where he appeared alongside People’s Party leader Ndindi Nyoro as the two leaders addressed residents on issues affecting the region.
Matiang’i and Nyoro called for a proper mining policy and urged the government to stop unilateral licensing of mining rights. They also raised concerns about illicit brews and called for stronger action against their spread.
Matiang’i’s latest remarks come as political activity continues to intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election.
His public engagement with residents, coupled with his criticism of an elected governor aligned with the administration, is likely to fuel further debate about political alliances and competition in Narok.
The Narok appearance therefore provided more than an ordinary public address, with Matiang’i using the platform to make a broader statement about political inclusion, leadership and the country’s future.
