Oburu’s Unexpected Declaration On 2027 Election Leaves Kenyans Talking
SIAYA, Kenya — Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Dr. Oburu Oginga, has sent shockwaves through the country’s political landscape following an unexpected declaration regarding his plans for the upcoming 2027 general election.
Since taking over the helm of the country’s largest opposition party following the death of his younger brother, the late political icon Raila Odinga, Oburu has been at the center of intensive nationwide political activities.
Given his newly elevated status as the ODM chief, political analysts and citizens alike widely expected him to follow in his late brother’s footsteps.
Many anticipated that he would bypass local contests to aim for the presidency or, at the very least, leave smaller regional elective seats to upcoming politicians.
However, defying all conventional expectations, Oburu has publicly declared that he will be defending his current seat as the Siaya County Senator in 2027.

“My focus remains serving the people of Siaya while guiding the party at the national level,” sources close to the lawmaker indicated.
Panic in the ODM Camp
The bombshell announcement has thrown the ODM party ranks into immediate disarray, particularly within Siaya County.
A wave of panic has hit several high-profile party loyalists and ambitious politicians who had already positioned themselves, invested heavily, and begun grassroots campaigns to vie for the Siaya senatorial seat on an ODM ticket.
With the party leader himself locking down the ticket for the seat, local politicians are now forced back to the drawing board.
Across social media, Kenyans are intensely debating the strategic implications of the move, with some praising his grassroots humility and others questioning what this means for the democratization and future of ODM’s national leadership.
