NAIROBI, Kenya — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sparked a fresh political storm following an explosive press conference moments after landing from a short trip to England.
Flanked by Nyandarua Senator John Methu and other top officials of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), Gachagua used the briefing at the party’s headquarters to declare his post-Europe political mission, triggering immediate backlash from the public.
The combative DCP leader launched a scathing attack on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, questioning his competence in handling national security.
Gachagua claimed that under Murkomen’s docket, the country has witnessed unprecedented security breaches, going as far as alleging that the system can no longer adequately protect President William Ruto.

“You cannot take security recklessly. If anything happens to the President, there will be chaos and instability in this country,” Gachagua warned, demanding the immediate overhaul of the security docket.
During the fiery presser, Gachagua also used the opportunity to cement his party’s structures ahead of the 2027 elections, officially unveiling Senator John Methu as the new DCP Secretary-General designate.
However, Gachagua’s fiery rhetoric has landed him in trouble with a cross-section of Kenyans. A wave of criticism has flooded social media and public forums, with citizens accusing the former Deputy President of crossing the line by playing politics with the safety of the Head of State.
Many Kenyans have called out the DCP leader for using sensitive national matters to settle political scores, urging him to display patriotism.
Critics argue that while oversight is necessary, targeting the President’s security detail for political mileage risks causing unnecessary alarm and despondency across the nation.
