Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has strongly condemned the tragic demise of gospel musician Rachel Wandeto, who succumbed to severe burn injuries at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on Monday morning following a politically motivated assault.
Ms. Wandeto, an artist from Mwiki in Kasarani, Nairobi, grabbed headlines earlier this year after tattooing the image of President William Ruto on her body alongside the words “Two Terms” on her chest.
Security reports indicate she was ambushed past midnight on Friday by three masked men along Obama Road in Mwiki. The attackers allegedly demanded money she had supposedly received for her public alignment with the Head of State.

When she stated she had nothing, the assailants doused her with fuel, set her on fire, and fled.
She was rushed to KNH with 70 percent burns across her torso, face, and limbs. CS Murkomen, accompanied by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, visited her bedside on Sunday evening shortly before she tragically lost the battle for her life.
Expressing deep sadness over the loss, CS Murkomen issued a stern warning against the rising tide of divisive and inflammatory political rhetoric in the country.
“I am profoundly saddened to learn of the demise of Ms. Rachel Wandeto, which happened this morning at the Kenyatta National Hospital following a heinous attack by a vile and intolerant group of people,” the CS stated.
“Her passing is deeply disturbing. No one deserves to be injured or killed for their political views or affiliation in this day and age.”
The Interior boss vowed that the state would track down her killers. “We shall bring the perpetrators of this senseless act to book. Rachel will get justice,” he assured, while conveying the government’s condolences to the grieving family.
