Political Friction: Sifuna Faces Backlash from Home Ground Following Successful Meru Rally
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s high-octane political momentum encountered immediate friction on his home turf following his highly publicized Linda Mwananchi rally in Meru County.
Sifuna was received with open arms in Mount Kenya, accompanied by key allies including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, and former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza. The leaders staged massive public engagements, pitching the Linda Mwananchi agenda and mobilizing grassroots support.
However, the euphoria of the eastern region tour was quickly overshadowed by criticism emerging from Western Kenya. In a newly circulated video, Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke mounted a fiery attack on the former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General, dismissing his national ambitions and political influence.

Waluke accused the Nairobi Senator of exploiting vulnerable citizens rather than providing actionable economic relief. He claimed Sifuna lacks the administrative experience, strategic vision, and wisdom required to steer the country’s governance.
“Instead of helping poor Kenyans directly, Sifuna is busy soliciting funds from them under the guise of political movements,” Waluke stated, questioning the Senator’s track record.
The Sirisia MP urged voters to reject political rhetoric—referencing opposition slogans like “Sisi ndo Sifuna”—and called on citizens to support President William Ruto’s reelection bid and development agenda instead.
The sharp rebuke highlights the persistent rift within Western Kenya’s political landscape. As Sifuna works to position himself on the national stage through high-profile regional tours, local resistance from established leaders like Waluke demonstrates the uphill battle he faces in consolidating solid backing from his home region.
