Homa Bay County Governor and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson, Her Excellency Gladys Wanga, has broken her silence on calls to remove ODM Secretary General Senator Edwin Sifuna following his absence from a crucial party meeting and his outspoken position on President William Ruto’s re-election bid.
The remarks come amid growing pressure from a section of ODM legislators who accused Sifuna of going against the party’s position, particularly over his criticism of the broad-based engagement with President Ruto’s administration.
Some leaders had demanded disciplinary action, including his dismissal from the powerful secretary general role.
However, speaking to the press, Wanga firmly dismissed claims that Sifuna was facing removal, stating that ODM remains a democratic party that respects divergent opinions. She emphasized that Sifuna’s views on President Ruto are personal and do not amount to misconduct.

“ODM is a democratic party, so Sifuna’s opinion regarding Ruto is his own opinion,” Wanga said. “Anyone in the party is allowed to have their opinion, but once the party makes a binding decision, then it should be followed.”
In remarks captured in a widely circulated statement dated January 14, 2026, Wanga further questioned the justification behind calls to eject the Nairobi Senator from party leadership.
“We are not chasing anyone away from the party. What has Sifuna done wrong to be sent away? A divergent opinion does not warrant being sent out of the party,” she stated.
Wanga also addressed Sifuna’s absence from the ODM meeting, downplaying it as insufficient grounds for disciplinary action. She reiterated that internal democracy and open debate remain core pillars of the Orange party.
Her comments are expected to calm tensions within ODM, which has recently experienced internal disagreements over its political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
