Gachagua Finally Speaks After Juja MP Dumped DCP And Accused Him Of Corruption

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has firmly responded to allegations made by Juja Member of Parliament Hon. George Koimburi, who recently accused the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) of intimidation, manipulation, and misleading Kenyans.

Koimburi made the claims while announcing his stance on the party, amid growing political controversy surrounding his conduct.

Speaking through the DCP Secretary General, Gachagua thanked Koimburi for voting against his impeachment in 2024 but dismissed assertions that the party was undemocratic. Gachagua clarified that Koimburi was never a formal member of DCP and therefore could not claim to have defected from it.

According to the DCP statement dated January 15, 2026, Koimburi made several demands during a private meeting with the party leader, including a request for a direct nomination ticket for the 2027 General Election.

He also demanded that his political rival, Hon. Aloise Kinyanjui, be removed from the party. The party leadership rejected these demands, stating that DCP is a democratic movement where all aspirants must face free, fair, and transparent nominations.

The statement further revealed that Koimburi requested to be exempted from attending public functions with the party leader until February 2026, allegedly to slow down the prosecution of various criminal cases facing him. He reportedly threatened to rejoin President William Ruto if his conditions were not met.

While rejecting the nomination demands, the party leader agreed to Koimburi’s request to avoid joint public appearances for the time being. Koimburi also confirmed attendance at a retreat for MPs allied to DCP and requested a photo opportunity with the party leader, which was later circulated by his supporters pledging loyalty.

DCP advised Koimburi to prepare for party nominations scheduled for March 2026 and reaffirmed that all 2027 aspirants will be subjected to a transparent process supervised by the National Elections Board. The party wished Koimburi well in his future political endeavors while maintaining its commitment to democratic values.
