Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally broken his silence on the possibility of working with former President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of the 2027 General Election to defeat President William Ruto.
His remarks come months after sustained speculation that the two influential Mount Kenya leaders could be plotting a political comeback through a joint coalition.
Speaking to journalists in Nairobi, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader made it clear that he is open to working with Uhuru Kenyatta if the former president reaches out.
Gachagua emphasized that his focus is not personalities but the bigger mission of unseating President Ruto, whom he accused of betraying the trust of Kenyans.
“The goal is very clear — Ruto must go home. If achieving that goal requires working with Uhuru Kenyatta, other leaders, or like-minded Kenyans, then so be it,” Gachagua said.
The former deputy president maintained that Kenya’s political future should not be driven by personal grudges but by unity of purpose.

He noted that Mount Kenya, which overwhelmingly supported Ruto in 2022, now feels sidelined and betrayed by the current administration, creating room for political realignment.
Gachagua also dismissed claims that any potential cooperation with Uhuru would be based on revenge politics, saying it would instead be anchored on restoring economic stability and inclusive governance.
According to him, Kenyans are struggling under high taxes, rising cost of living, and unfulfilled campaign promises.
Political analysts argue that a Gachagua-Uhuru alliance could significantly reshape the 2027 race, especially in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region. However, they caution that such a partnership would require careful negotiation given their past political differences.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, Gachagua’s remarks signal a shift towards broader opposition unity, setting the stage for intense political maneuvering in the months ahead.
