Former President William Ruto’s economic adviser, Hon. Moses Kuria, has broken his silence after abruptly leaving a funeral service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, citing fears of planned violence.
Kuria was among leaders who gathered in Makomboki, Murang’a County, to mourn the late Mrs. Alice Wangari Gakuya, the mother of Embakasi South Member of Parliament Hon. James Gakuya.
However, his presence at the event was short-lived. In a strongly worded statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Kuria said he decided to leave after receiving intelligence that chaos was being planned against leaders perceived to be opposed to Gachagua.
According to Kuria, the situation at the funeral had initially been calm until reports emerged that certain groups were preparing to cause violence.

He claimed the alleged plot targeted politicians seen as critics of Gachagua’s political camp. “I left when I learnt of a plot to cause violence against those perceived to be opposed to Rigathi Gachagua,” Kuria stated.
The former Gatundu South MP further alleged that the situation later escalated beyond his expectations, claiming that Lamu Woman Representative Muthoni Marubu was assaulted during the chaos.
Kuria strongly condemned the alleged incident, saying he was shocked that violence could be directed at a woman during a funeral.
In his statement, Kuria directly attacked Gachagua, accusing him of cowardice and dangerous politics.
He questioned whether former presidents Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki, or Uhuru Kenyatta would ever condone violence against women at public events.
Kuria went on to describe Gachagua as “a coward, a despot and a dangerous man,” warning that he had crossed a “red line” and vowing a fierce political confrontation.
The allegations have since fueled intense debate online, with Kenyans calling for calm and respect at public gatherings as political temperatures continue to rise ahead of the 2027 general election.
