President William Ruto has sparked widespread debate among Kenyan parents after making a firm declaration on the future of education in the country.
In a video that has since gone viral, the Head of State stated that free education in Kenya is currently not sustainable, citing economic challenges facing the government.
Speaking during an event focused on the progress and future of Kenya’s education sector, President Ruto addressed growing public discussions surrounding education reforms, including recent controversial remarks by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Grade 10 placement in public schools.
The President emphasized that while education remains a top priority for his administration, the country’s economic realities limit what the government can fully provide at the moment.
According to President Ruto, the government is not in a position to shoulder the entire financial burden of education due to an unstable economy and competing national needs.
