Tensions Flare as Oburu Odinga Angrily Lectures Martha Karua Over 2027 Zoning Remarks
A dramatic video has surfaced online showing Siaya Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) stalwart, Dr. Oburu Odinga, losing his cool and launching a scathing verbal attack on veteran politician Martha Karua. The explosive remarks, delivered at a fully packed public event, have ignited intense political debate across Kenya.
The confrontation stems from Karua’s previous public statements criticizing the ODM party. Karua had openly called out ODM for allegedly demanding political “zoning” ahead of the 2027 general election—a strategy that restricts certain regions to specific coalition candidates.
Seemingly furious, Oburu did not hold back. He heavily lectured Karua, questioning her locus standi to comment on the internal affairs of a political formation she does not belong to.
Oburu pointed out that Karua is entirely excluded from the unfolding political alignment being fronted between President William Ruto and the ODM party leadership.

“You cannot dictate terms to a house you do not live in. Martha Karua needs to focus on her own political business and stop meddling in ODM’s strategic planning,” an agitated Oburu stated, amid cheers from the crowd.
He further asserted that ODM is an independent, mature entity capable of deciding its own political fate without unsolicited external interference.
The video has triggered mixed reactions online. While some Kenyans support Oburu for protecting his party’s autonomy, others have criticized his aggressive tone against Karua, who served as Azimio’s deputy presidential candidate in the last election cycles.
As alliances shift rapidly ahead of the 2027 polls, this public fallout signals a definitive fracturing of past coalitions, setting the stage for a ruthless ideological battle between former allies.
