Video: Gachagua Finally Responds To CS Duale With ‘Evidence’ Of How SHA Is Being Syphoned
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hit back at Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, presenting what he termed as “evidence” of alleged mismanagement and siphoning of funds within the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Speaking during a press conference in Makueni County, Gachagua, flanked by several opposition leaders, accused the Ministry of Health of failing to safeguard public resources meant for healthcare.
This comes days after Duale challenged him to publicly table proof to support his claims that the newly established health insurance scheme could collapse within six months.
Gachagua alleged that proxies linked to senior officials are diverting funds from the scheme through questionable contracts. He specifically pointed to a Dubai-based company, claiming it receives approximately KSh 600 million monthly from the program.

According to him, the arrangement has left many Kenyans struggling to access essential medical services despite continued contributions.
The former deputy president further criticized the transition from the defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), arguing that the previous system only required about KSh 800 million to upgrade its infrastructure to meet modern standards.
Instead, he claimed, the government scrapped the plan and awarded a controversial KSh 104 billion contract to a firm allegedly linked to individuals close to power.
“These are not just claims; this is evidence of a well-orchestrated scheme to siphon public funds at the expense of ordinary Kenyans,” Gachagua stated.
However, the Ministry of Health has previously dismissed similar allegations, insisting that the SHA reforms are aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and universal healthcare coverage.
The unfolding standoff between Gachagua and Duale now sets the stage for a potential political and legal showdown, as pressure mounts on authorities to address the claims and assure Kenyans of accountability in the management of public health funds.
