Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has fired back at President William Ruto in a sharp exchange that has ignited debate across the country, following recent remarks about his physical appearance.
In a video circulating widely online, Gachagua is seen addressing supporters during a rally in Kanzonzweni, Makueni County, where he responded to claims made by the Head of State labeling him and his allies as “fat.”
The former Deputy President, who was previously impeached from office, appeared unfazed by the criticism, instead turning the issue into a political statement.
Speaking to a charged crowd aligned with the emerging opposition movement, Gachagua stated that his current focus remains firmly on national politics rather than personal matters.
He declared that he has no time to visit the gym at the moment, emphasizing that his priority is ensuring that President Ruto serves only one term in office.

“I will go to the gym the day after he is declared a one-term president,” Gachagua told the cheering crowd, drawing laughter and applause from supporters who appeared energized by his remarks.
The rally, attended by several opposition figures, showcased growing political tensions as factions begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
