Ruth Odinga Goes After Mbadi Again After Wide Spread Protests In Kenya

KISUMU, Kenya — The political feud within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has erupted once again after Kisumu County Woman Representative Ruth Odinga launched a scathing attack on National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi.

The latest clash follows widespread protests across Kenya sparked by a record hike in fuel prices, which has triggered public outrage and transport paralysis.

Taking to her social media platforms, Ruth Odinga—sister to the late long-time opposition leader Raila Odinga—told Mbadi to stop obsessing over her and instead fix the economic crisis gripping the nation.

“Focus on solving the fuel crisis and stop discussing me,” Ruth stated, urging the Treasury boss to address the grievances of citizens taking to the streets.

The Roots of the Bitter Fallout

The bad blood between the two political heavyweights escalated a week ago during an ODM strategic retreat in Mombasa.

Mbadi reportedly angered the Odinga family by declaring that ODM is “not family property” and warning members against entitlement based on the Odinga name. He further sparked fury by asserting that the party must transition into a “post-Raila era.”

Ruth, alongside EALA MP Winnie Odinga and former First Lady Ida Odinga, strongly dismantled Mbadi’s remarks. They accused him of disrespecting the immense sacrifices made by the late premier for Kenya’s democracy.

A Nation in Turmoil

While Mbadi defended his stance by claiming the fuel crisis is a global phenomenon driven by Middle East volatility, pressure continues to mount on his office. Despite the government spending billions on fuel stabilization and reducing VAT, pump prices remain painfully high.

As citizens demand financial relief, the internal warfare threatens to split ODM into pro-government factions and traditionalists. Mbadi is yet to issue a formal response to Ruth’s latest salvos.
