Parents across Kiharu Constituency have received a major boost following a bold education intervention announced by their area Member of Parliament, Ndindi Nyoro.
The move is expected to significantly ease the financial pressure on households that have struggled to keep children in school amid rising living costs and economic uncertainty.
Speaking during a constituency development forum, Nyoro said the decision was informed by concerns raised by parents, school administrators and education stakeholders.

They noted that school fees had become a key barrier to retention in day secondary schools.
He emphasized that access to education remains a cornerstone of long-term economic empowerment and social stability.
The MP noted that the initiative targets all public day secondary schools within Kiharu and will take effect immediately.
He explained that the subsidy is aimed at ensuring no child misses school due to lack of fees, particularly those from vulnerable and low-income families.

According to Nyoro, the programme is being implemented in collaboration with school boards and education officials to ensure smooth execution.
Under the new arrangement, school fees for all day secondary schools in Kiharu Constituency have been reduced to Ksh500 per term, making secondary education more affordable than ever before in the region.
The funds will be supplemented through constituency allocations to ensure schools continue running without compromising on learning standards.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the move, describing it as a progressive step that could improve enrolment, attendance, and academic performance.
Parents expressed relief, saying the reduction would allow them to focus on meeting other essential needs such as food, healthcare, and housing.
Nyoro urged parents to take advantage of the programme by ensuring their children remain in school, adding that education remains the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty.
He reaffirmed his commitment to investing in youth-focused initiatives to secure Kiharu’s future.
