The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has accused President William Ruto of interfering with its internal affairs, setting the stage for a fresh political confrontation between the ruling administration and the opposition party.
ODM Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi raised alarm over what he described as direct and deliberate attempts by State House to influence the party’s leadership and decision making processes.
Speaking during a party function, Osotsi claimed that ODM was facing unprecedented external pressure aimed at weakening its structures and compromising its independence.
He alleged that individuals linked to the government were being used to sow divisions within the party, undermine its leadership, and manipulate grassroots processes for political gain.
“ODM is a democratic party with clear structures and organs. What we are witnessing is a worrying attempt by State House to interfere with our affairs and dictate how we should run our party,” Osotsi said.
He warned that such actions posed a threat not only to ODM but also to Kenya’s multiparty democracy.

The ODM deputy leader argued that political parties must be allowed to operate freely without intimidation or coercion from the executive.
According to Osotsi, attempts to control opposition parties through inducements, threats, or infiltration reflected intolerance to dissent and differing political views.
ODM leaders have previously accused the government of targeting opposition strongholds and leaders as part of a broader plan to weaken rival political formations.
Osotsi reaffirmed ODM’s commitment to remaining firm and united, insisting that the party would not be distracted from its role of holding the government accountable.
He said ODM would continue to speak out on issues affecting Kenyans, including the cost of living, governance, and respect for constitutionalism.
Political analysts say the allegations underscore the deepening rivalry between President Ruto’s administration and the opposition, led by ODM leader Raila Odinga. They note that accusations of state interference in party politics often escalate tensions and could further polarize the political landscape.
