Chaos Erupts in Embu as Goons Disrupt Governor Mbarire and DP Kindiki Meeting
EMBU, Kenya — Embu County Governor Her Excellency Cecily Mbarire expressed anger and distress following a political empowerment gathering in Nembure Stadium that descended into chaos after being stormed by armed goons.
The high-profile event, which was also attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, turned violent as unruly youth disrupted the proceedings, forcing leaders and attendees to scramble for safety amid teargas and confrontation.
Footage from a now-viral video shows the tense moments when the meeting was unexpectedly interrupted, causing a stampede as security detail rushed Governor Mbarire and DP Kindiki out of the venue.

The violence led to severe destruction of property, including several vehicles—among them an ambulance and a media car—being set ablaze. Multiple individuals sustained injuries, and fatalities were reported as political rivalries boiled over into open clashes.
Addressing the press following the violent encounter, a visibly shaken Governor Mbarire strongly condemned the attack, calling it a dark day for Embu County.
She expressed deep regret over the loss of lives and the destruction of private and public property, terming the act a dangerous trend of political intolerance.
“It is utterly unfortunate that lives have been lost and properties destroyed over political differences,” Mbarire stated, calling on rival leaders to refrain from using youth as tools for violence.
As the national political window opens and local political contests intensify, Mbarire urged Embu residents and political leaders across the spectrum to exercise restraint, maintain peaceful dialogue, and remain tolerant. Police have launched investigations to apprehend the organizers and sponsors behind the violence.
